While focusing on our CHURCH+SCHOOL+FAMILY relationship, I’d like to emphasize another important aspect of the parent’s role in the home:  ANSWERING QUESTIONS!

What would you say if your son or daughter or grandchild asked:

  1. Why do bad things happen if God is stronger than Satan?
  2. Will my dead pets be in heaven?     Or how about
  3. People talk about me behind my back. How do I handle that situation?

Would you have a scriptural answer for these questions?

We have good news: We do! We have the scriptural answers for these three questions and 17 others in this book: Kids Have Questions! This book is now available to check out in Ascension’s Library!

LCMS Pastor Conner from Iowa has been answering questions like these from his confirmation classes for the past twenty years through journaling. He now periodically appears on Issues, Etc. podcasts to present answers to some of his students’ top questions. First, he answers questions quickly for the kids, then he answers the questions more in depth for the parents.

Pastor Conner’s message is simple:

Kids have questions.
So don’t panic.
Don’t blow their questions off.
Don’t make them feel dumb or they won’t come back to YOU to ask more questions.

His book: Kids Have Questions has sample questions from his podcast. I’d like to encourage parents/grandparents to read this book and for you to inspire your children/grandchildren to ask you questions. You can write them down -OR HAVE YOUR CHILD WRITE THEM DOWN- so you can answer them when you have time. If you don’t know the answer, you can search the scriptures together or encourage them to bring their notebook and question to Pastor Gier or Pastor Zieroth.

Throughout the year, we will be placing new questions with a link to Pastor Conner’s podcast answers on Issue Etc. into our monthly newsletter. So keep on the lookout for more answers to Kids Have Questions!
